About Iona

Iona Sky (they/them/she/her) is an Indo-Canadian social worker, consultant and educator.  Iona has worked in the social services for over 2 decades and is a consultant and leader in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. Iona's areas of focus are practice application and service excellence, leadership and organizational development. Iona is also part-time faculty in the Social Work department at the University of Waterloo.

In all of Iona's work, both personally and professionally, they bring their lived intersectional experiences as a queer immigrant parent with invisible disabilities. This self-reflexive journey as a dually marginalized and privileged person in the Canadian landscape has provided Iona with different experiences of oppression as well as privilege, which they use to inform their advocacy and social justice work.

Iona Sky recently has over 20 years of work in child welfare including provincial leadership. Find out more about her previous role to transform child welfare in Ontario.

Iona is a very intuitive facilitator who can work with any team, be it the board of Directors or front line staff team and easily adapt their presentations and approach to ensure that everyone in the room has the opportunity to participate and learn. Iona’s approach is one of gentle & thoughtful leadership with tremendous respect for both the subject and the courage it takes from the participants to share, be honest and fully engage in the EDI conversation.
