Land acknowledgements from my perspective as a settler
Commit towards working and addressing anti Indigenous racism
I'm not Indigenous to these lands so when I talk about land acknowledgments, be it in my class or be it in my consulting work, I always frame it in the language of land acknowledgement and commitment. Because it's not only important to acknowledge the land that you're on and the Indigenous communities and families and groups that these lands belong to, but also to commit, towards working, towards addressing anti Indigenous racism, towards addressing colonization, not only the impacts of the legacies of colonization.
People seem to think about it in the time that it's in the past but how is it happening right now?And how can we work towards change?
