Anti-Bullying Day

Yesterday was Pink Shirt Day (Anti-Bullying Day).

The origins

It started because of a boy who was ridiculed and bullied because he wore a pink shirt. The colour of pink in the Western context is assumed to be gender specific and that it's only for girls.

Pink is a colour that everybody can wear

As I said to my son, when he was little: “pink is just a colour”, and pink is a colour that everybody can wear.

What it signified for the bullies is that somehow this boy was less than and not male enough. And that's a form of homophobia and transphobia.
