International Students and Access to Food in Canada

Recently I was reading an article recently about international students in the Kitchener-Waterloo region, which is where I live, and how they are a high rising group of people experiencing food insecurity, meaning that they don't have access to affordable food.

And also, we're not just affordable food, but familiar foods. I was reading the comments I saw a lot of myths and stereotypes and misconceptions so thought I would share a few words considering that I came to Canada as an international student.

  1. Tuition to schools is about between three to five times higher for international students than for Canadian born students.

  2. Things such as healthcare, such as social services are not available for free for international students. You have to pay for it.

  3. Families often spend all of their money sending their child overseas, so they often live in poverty
